Our Whirlpool Max 109 Grill Microwave Review

Whirlpool Max 109

The Max 109 from Whirlpool features their trademark quirky rounded design, enabling the microwave to fit closer into corners, thus taking up less room in your kitchen.

In the average rectangular microwave, the rear two corners are essentially wasted space - simply as the turntable is circular, and needs to be able to rotate.  Whirlpool have removed these corners, which in turn reduces the overall room required to store this microwave - providing you with more kitchen space.

This particular model is finished in bronze, and has a listed specification of just 13 litres capacity - however bear in mind that this is because it has less wasted space than a rectangular microwave - and so in effect it provides the same size (28cm) turntable, and will accommodate the same size plates as a regular 20 litre rectangular microwave.

It features 700w of power, divided into 5 different power settings, together will a built in crisp system, that does an excellent job of finishing off and crisping food.

The controls were clear and easy to use - with the exception of the timer which can be a little difficult to set, particularly when selecting a short time period, such as 30 seconds.  For longer time periods it is relatively straight forward though.

It cooked food well during the test, with no uncooked sections or colder spots - coverage was pretty good.

Cleaning was incredibly simple, thanks to Whirlpool's steam cleaning facility - removing any stubborn food marks took seconds.

Overall we liked this microwave - the bronze microwave stood out amongst the rest of the black, white and silver models on the market.

Our Verdict for the Whirlpool Max 109

A fairly unique looking microwave, one that is ideal for small kitchens - it won't take up too much work surface, but still provides a decent capacity and cooks well.
