Combi Microwaves

A combi microwave oven is essentially a do-it-all kitchen appliance; an electrical microwave with an oven and grill. Combination microwave ovens will include the same basic microwave facility as the solo microwave, with the addition of a grill to brown and crisp food, as per the grill microwave. They also feature the added bonus of an electrical oven facility, enabling you to bake cakes, roast meats and carry out any other tasks usually reserved for a regular kitchen oven. Combi microwave ovens are an extremely versatile kitchen appliance, being highly practical without taking up too much precious worktop space. If you don’t have access to a regular oven and grill, then a combi microwave is considered the next best alternative. Prices tend to start at around £90.

We’ve listed the best combination microwave ovens below, complete with reviews, microwave specifications and prices. Our combination microwave oven reviews should help find the perfect microwave for your kitchen.

What is a combination microwave?

A combi microwave (combination microwave) includes all the standard features of a regular solo microwave, but with the addition of a grill and a convection oven built in. These extra cooking features provide far more versatility, enabling you to brown, crisp, bake and roast food, yet without taking up too much additional kitchen space. Essentially it is a do it all kitchen appliance, which typically uses less electricity than a regular kitchen oven or grill. Due to the extra features and components required, a combi microwave normally costs a little extra when compared to the equivalent solo or grill microwave models.

If kitchen space is of a premium, and you require an appliance capable of a multitude of tasks, then a combi microwave is a good choice - it takes up comparatively little room, yet will enable you to cook the majority of dishes easily and effectively. They are available in a variety of capacities, colours and power outputs - with the larger power output models typically capable of cooking at a higher temperature ranges.

In terms of price, a combination microwave will start at around the £90 mark for the cheapest model and go upwards to around £250. The more expensive models tend to have better build quality, as well as offer larger capacities, more features and are capable of cooking at higher temperatures. The budget combination microwave ovens tend to feature more plastic in their construction, as well as typically providing less features, such as auto cook menus. Popular manufacturers of combi microwave ovens include Panasonic, Daewoo, Whirlpool and Sharp.

If you're looking to purchase a combination microwave, then it is worth looking for a model from a manufacturer that you trust. Microwaves do occasionally break, usually due to overheating, and so it is worth making sure that there is a decent customer after sales service in place. Read multiple reviews of each model to make sure that they do not suffer from a common issue, and make sure that the unit is large or small enough for your needs. We have provided both internal and external measurements where possible, as well as the full specification for each combi model, in order to make your choice easier.
